A black tea scented with osmanthus, built on a fully oxidised Chinese red tea base (known in the West as black tea). The mild, full-bodied red tea meets the sweet floral fragrance of osmanthus (gui hua), one of the classic flower pairings in Chinese tea. From the same Bai Ying Shan gardens in Lincang, Yunnan, the fresh 2026 production, offered in a 25 g portion.
The base does the heavy lifting and the flower lifts it. On its own the red tea is smooth and rounded; with osmanthus it gains a sweet, apricot-and-honey floral top note that makes the cup richer and easier to drink. The two sit together naturally, the flower brightening the tea without masking it.
The liquor pours a beautiful reddish-brown, clear and full, smooth and gently sweet on the palate with the osmanthus aroma rising from the cup. It steeps well across several infusions, the floral note easing while the malty-sweet red tea base carries through to a warm finish. Good both gongfu style and in a relaxed Western pot.
