Hualinchun Zhenwei Shu Pu-erh (Ripe Pu-erh) 2023, 50g | Menghai & Lincang
Description
Zhenwei is a 2023 ripe pu-erh from Hualinchun (华林春), offered as a 50 g portion broken from a 357 g cake. It is made from sun-dried Yunnan large-leaf maocha from Bulang Mountain in Menghai and the old tea-growing areas of Gengma in Lincang, then fermented in the traditional way.
The cake looks promising, with plenty of larger leaves, copper-brown tones and even compression.
According to the producer, expect a deep red, bright liquor, a naturally sweet and mellow profile, a thick and smooth texture, and pronounced tea energy with a long sweet aftertaste, with notes of dried dates, wood and brown sugar.
A young, well-priced everyday shu with good potential to improve with further ageing. Equally at home in a gongfu session or a thermos.
