Lao Tong Zhi First Grade Loose Shu Pu-erh (Ripe Pu-erh) Tea 2023, 50g | Haiwan
Description
A loose-leaf ripe pu-erh from Lao Tong Zhi ("Old Comrade"), the celebrated brand of the Haiwan Tea Factory in Yunnan, founded by the legendary master Zou Bingliang. This is a first-grade (一级) shu, sold loose rather than pressed, from the 2023 production, in a 50 g pack.
Sold loose, it is the easiest possible shu to use: no cake to break, just scoop and brew. The character is classic Haiwan ripe, clean and smooth, built on decades of refined fermentation know-how. [Confirm tasting notes — a first-grade Lao Tong Zhi shu like this typically shows wood, dried dates and a gentle natural sweetness over a smooth earthy depth.] As a young 2023 it carries fresh energy and will round out further with a little rest.
The liquor is deep chestnut to red-brown, thick and glossy, with a soft texture that coats the mouth. It brews quickly and forgivingly, staying stable and generous through many steeps while the quiet sweetness grows as the session goes on.
A convenient, dependable everyday shu: brand-name quality with none of the fuss of a pressed cake. Equally good in a quick gongfu session or a thermos for the working day, and the loose format makes it ideal for daily drinking.
