A ripe pu-erh from Limingxing (黎星), made by the Menghai Liming Xinghuo Tea Factory (勐海县黎明星火茶厂), the former state-owned Liming No. 7 Branch Farm tea factory in Xishuangbanna. Golden Peacock Special Grade Cake (金孔雀特级饼) is a "Menghai Qi Zi Bing Cha" pressed in the traditional 357 g format, its wrapper decorated with a peacock, the symbol of Xishuangbanna. Made from moderately fermented Yunnan large-leaf sun-dried maocha from Menghai county. Pressed in 2012.
"Special grade" (特级) marks the finer leaf of the factory's range. With over a decade of age, the early pile-ferment edge is long gone, leaving the smooth, comfortable side of shu: a clean, deep cup with mellow sweetness and a full body. Expect notes of wood, dried dates and a soft aged sweetness.
The liquor is deep red-brown, clear and glossy, with a soft, full texture that coats the mouth. Across infusions it stays stable and generous, holding its depth through many steeps while the sweetness opens further.
