Description
A collectible raw pu-erh from Dayi, pressed by the legendary Menghai Tea Factory as part of its zodiac commemorative series for the Year of the Dog (2018). The name says everything about its purpose: Wang Cai Yuan Bao means "bring wealth and fortune," and the tea is shaped as a yuanbao, the gold ingot that has symbolised prosperity in China for centuries. A small 100 g tuo built to be given, kept and enjoyed.
Inside the auspicious form is a classic Menghai-style sheng blend from Xishuangbanna large-leaf material. With several years of age behind it, the early sharpness has softened: it opens with gentle floral and dried-fruit notes over a light, clean bitterness that converts quickly into a returning sweetness. The character is still lively and clearly raw, but rounder and more settled than a fresh pressing.
The liquor is clear and golden, smooth and well structured. Across infusions the astringency eases and the honeyed sweetness grows, leaving a long, gently cooling finish in the throat. The compact tuo breaks cleanly and steeps generously through many rounds.
