Wuyi Shan GABA Da Hong Pao Tea Brick 2025, 100g | Wuyi Shan, Fujian

A GABA Da Hong Pao made from genuine Wuyi Shan leaf, grown in the rocky mountains of Fujian that are the original home of Da Hong Pao and Wuyi rock oolong (yancha). This is the real terroir behind the name, here given the GABA treatment and pressed into a 100 g brick. The 2025 production.

GABA tea is made through anaerobic (oxygen-free) processing, which naturally raises the leaf's GABA content and yields a notably smooth cup with no harshness. Applied to authentic Wuyi Da Hong Pao, it keeps the roasted, mineral backbone the mountain is known for, the "rock rhyme" (yan yun), while adding GABA's rounded sweetness: expect roasted notes, dark dried fruit and a warm chocolate-caramel depth over a clean mineral finish.

The liquor is deep amber to chestnut, clear and silky, coating the mouth with a roasted sweetness and a distinct mineral edge. Across infusions it holds its character well, the dried-fruit and roast notes settling while the rocky, mineral finish keeps the cup defined. Forgiving to brew and rewarding in both quick gongfu steeps and a relaxed Western pot.

A distinctive piece for anyone curious about GABA tea, and a genuine one for oolong drinkers who know Wuyi yancha and want to taste Da Hong Pao reimagined without losing its rock-terroir character. The real Wuyi Shan origin sets it apart from GABA oolongs made elsewhere.
