Ya Shi Xiang (Duck Shit Aroma) Feng Huang Dan Cong Oolong Tea 2026, 25g | Phoenix Mountain, Guangdong
Description
Ya Shi Xiang (鸭屎香), famously translated as "Duck Shit Aroma", is one of the most celebrated aroma types of Feng Huang Dan Cong, the single-bush oolongs of Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou, Guangdong. The unusual name is said to have been given by a farmer to keep neighbours from taking his prized bush, and it has nothing to do with the cup. Offered loose in 25 g packs.
This one comes from the producer who impressed us most in our Dan Cong search. Out of roughly 30 places we sourced Feng Huang Dan Cong from, this is the first where every tea we tried was outstanding, without a single exception.
The aroma is the star, and it is there at every stage: in the dry leaf, in the leaf warming in the pot, in the wet leaf after the first infusion and in the cup. Flowers, honey and ripe fruit lead into a deep sweetness and a very long finish. Open the lid and the fragrance fills the room. Most importantly, there is not a trace of bitterness, which anyone who knows Dan Cong will appreciate.
An exceptionally clean, deep and vibrant Dan Cong, and an easy recommendation both for those discovering Phoenix oolongs and for those who already love them.
