Zhongcha "Spring Melody of Nannuoshan" Sheng Pu-erh (Raw Pu-erh) Tea Cake 2011, 200g | Nannuoshan, Menghai
Description
An aged raw pu-erh from Zhongcha (中茶, COFCO), one of China's oldest and most respected tea houses. "Spring Melody of Nannuoshan" (春之韵之南糯山) was pressed in 2011 as a 200 g cake from Nannuoshan material, one of the classic tea mountains of Menghai, Yunnan.
After 15 years of storage, the sharp green edge of young sheng has softened, and the profile has turned deeper, calmer and more rounded. Expect dried fruit, wood, honey and autumn leaves, with a light floral touch in the background.
The liquor pours golden-amber, smooth and lightly sweet, with a long, persistent aftertaste. Across short gongfu infusions it stays balanced, revealing more depth as the session goes on.
A beautiful example of how a good sheng evolves with time: easy and rewarding to drink now, and an interesting cake for anyone curious about aged raw pu-erh.
